Yoga/Pilates Instructors

Who Needs General Liability Insurance? You Do!

As a yoga or Pilates instructor, it's hard for you to imagine that a student would sue you. But imagine this: while helping a student with the swan exercise or perfecting a student's heron pose, she pulls a muscle. Months later, you receive legal papers in the mail. Your student is suing you for negligence, claiming that your instruction caused her injury, and that she's been unable to work ever since she took your class.

How Does General Liability Insurance Protect You?

Simply put, general liability insurance protects you from financial loss. Without insurance, if a student is injured and sues you for negligence, you would have to pay for losses out of your own pocket.

When you teach at a facility that someone else owns, their insurance does not cover you and will not protect you! Most gyms and schools require you to have your own general liability insurance.

Note 1: All instructors must be currently certified by a national organization approved by Markel Insurance Company. Click here for a list of Markel-approved organizations.

Note 2: This general liability policy is offered through C.M. Meiers Company, Inc., a Markel partner agency.

Choose the Coverage You Need

You can choose the general liability limit you need:

  • $136 premium, fully earned: $500,000 per occurrence/$1.5 million aggregate
  • $171 premium, fully earned: $1 million per occurrence/$3 million aggregate

*Fully earned means that if you cancel your policy, your premium will not be refunded. Per occurrence is the maximum amount Markel will pay for each covered claim.  Aggregate is the maximum amount Markel will pay for all covered claims combined. (Where permitted by law.)
