Protect Your Most Important Asset with Professional Liability Insurance
When you're an independent instructor, you are your business's most important asset. Simply put, you need professional liability insurance, because it protects you from financial loss. Without insurance, if a student is injured and sues you for negligence, you would have to pay for losses out of your own pocket.
When you teach at a facility that someone else owns, their insurance does not cover you and will not protect you! Most gyms and schools require you to have your own professional liability insurance.
When you think about it, professional liability insurance is quite a bargain. Let's say your premium is $171 for the year. In April, a student is injured during class, and sues you for $750,000. The case goes to court, and the jury awards the student $450,000. If you didn't have professional liability insurance, you'd have to pay the $450,000.
Note: All professional liability policies require a current U.S. certification in the field you are instructing.
